Flame Thower Redbud (Cercis canadensis ‘NC2016-2’) is a compact selection of the native redbud tree, resulting from a controlled cross between Cercis canadensis ‘Ruby Falls’ and C. candadensis ‘JN2’ THE RISING SUN. When mature, Flame Thrower Redbuds reach up to 20 feet tall with a 15-foot spread. Their heart-shaped leaves emerge with burgundy tones in spring, some maturing to chartreuse green while others retain their burgundy color, creating a delightful multi-colored effect. In early spring, these trees showcase light pink, pea-like flowers on bare branches before the foliage emerges.
