Chinquapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii)

Chinquapin Oak (Quercus muehlenbergii)

Chinkapin Oak is a beautiful, deciduous, upright shade tree developing into a magnificent specimen when mature. It has dark green shiny leaves with a silvery underside which helps to provide a lush landscape appearance. Chinkapin Oak has an ashy light gray bark that breaks into narrow thin flakes as it matures. Interesting, serrated leaf edge is quite different from other trees. With a moderate growth rate, the tree will be 40 to 50 feet tall and 30 feet wide when mature. This drought resistant Oak does best in well-drained soil but adapts to many soil types and has few insect or disease problems. Chinkapin Oak is in the White Oak family, making it more resistant to Oak Wilt. Another good tree for the birds!
