Dynamite Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica ‘Whit II’) produces one of the brightest red blooms of all Crapes and can bloom for up to 100 days. It is highly resistance to pest and disease; it is drought tolerant and cold tolerant down to 0 degrees. Just because a plant is considered drought tolerant, doesn’t mean it will perform well when deprived of food and water. When everything else has stopped blooming because of the heat and humidity of the summer, the Dynamite Crape is just getting started. And you get blooms that start light red the first year and then get deeper each passing year – giving you the best yard on the block. The bright red, some describe it as a cherry red, flowers appear in midsummer on terminal shoots in panicles capable of reaching a foot in length. The dark red, crape-like blooms are occasionally flecked with a few petals of white, which only serve to heighten the intensity of the red. The leaves of this deciduous Crape Myrtle emerge red in the spring tinged with crimson. As the summer progresses, they turn to green. Dynamite Crape Myrtles can grow up to 20 feet in height and as wide depending on soil conditions and care. (use Bloom Food and water regularly)
