Arizona Cypress Carolina Sapphire (Cupressus arizonica ‘Carolina Sapphire’) is native to the United States, particularly prevalent in the state of Arizona. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, although its foliage may thin out if grown in shade. This tree is moderately drought-tolerant, salt-tolerant, and can withstand summer heat. Its beautiful silvery-blue to teal foliage remains year-round, and the bark has a gray to brownish-black hue. The branches are sturdy yet lacy in appearance. If you’re planning to create a screen with this tree, plant them at least 7 feet apart. The crown of the Arizona Cypress is broad and conical, and it can grow to a mature height of 40 to 60 feet with a width of 15 to 20 feet. The seed cones are about an inch in diameter and dark red-brown. It’s relatively trouble-free and moderately deer-resistant, making it a good choice for screening and windbreaks.
